Testing the HorusBennu 747T Tripod
After weeks of research, searching and comparing tripods suitable for hiking trips I finally got the chance to test one of the cheaper options on the market, the HorusBennu 747T aluminum tripod with the LX-1T ball-head. I’ve only had it for a week and so far I have only had a chance to test it on two occasions, both outdoor at twilight with long exposures and loaded with heavy equipment (2kg). So far it has performed quite well considering it is one of the cheapest eBay travel tripods around. I plan on testing this in a wide range of situations and will write a review once I am done. Meanwhile, I’m happy to answer any questions anyone might have regarding the head and legs.
I’ve been looking at buying one myself. Would you buy it again? Pros/Cons?
The pros:
The price. It’s very light and easy to carry, easy to set up and extremely versatile in use. The head is surprisingly sturdy. It holds 2 kilos without any problems.
Cons: The legs are short and not very sturdy. I measured that the vibration from even gentle contact (like dialing f-stop etc) did not stop until several seconds. I therefore use a remote and a self-timer at 10 secs.
I would buy it if I was on a budget. I have used it for hikes and travels for quite a while now, but never gotten around to writing that review. Personally I’d rather have something that’s easy to carry than something rock solid, but extremely heavy. If you can afford a carbon fiber alternative, I’d definitely look into it. I’m 1.80 and find it to be a little bit too short since I have to bend quite a bit, but I don’t really see it as a huge problem. Or at least it hasn’t given me any backaches yet.
